Let's Talk Scent

Facts:

  • Male ring-tailed lemurs engage in 'stink fights' to establish territory. They have swear glands above armpits and on the insides of the forearms. They place the insides of their forearms on their armpit to mix the secretions on their armpit. They then smear the mixed secretion on their tails. Now they wave these stinky tails at each other to mark their territory
  • Rhinoceros sprays urine on the bushes to tell other that this is his home ( yuck)
  • Some animals use urine of faeces or both for scent marking
