- The heart is a muscle
- Its located in at the middle-lift of your body
- Its about the size of a fist
- The heart provides your body with the oxygen and nutrients it needs
- It collects waste, such as carbon dioxide
- The right side of a heart receives blood from the body and pumps it to the lungs
- The left side of your heart receives blood from the lungs and pumps it out to the body
- The heart is made of four chambers, two on each side of the heart
- The two chambers at the top are called atria (ay-tree-uh)
- The two chambers at the bottom are called ventricles
- There is a thick wall of muscle called the septum running down the middle of the heart to seperate the left and right side of the heart
- Arteries carry blood away from the heart
- Veins carry blood back to the blood the heart
